In year 7 Pupils build upon skills and knowledge already gained in their previous school. Pupils gain confidence in their own abilities and learn new skills. They are encouraged to experiment and enjoy working with new materials and disciplines. This project extends the pupils knowledge and skills in measuring and design through the use of CAD/CAM. They will investigate different types of key tags available, look at ergonomics, produce initial ideas through brainstorming, modify and produce a final design. Pupils learn to use the basic tools in the 2D Design CAD/CAM computer program to produce a key tag with their name engraved in it. Further development in the use of 2D Design to produce a laser cut bookmark which uses the shape of an imported bitmap. Outcomes can be manufactured in acrylic, card or leather. Design and make tasks and ‘project’ work are encouraged as a means of covering areas of the specification content
